As Chair of RCOG Northern Ireland Committee and representative on the Congress organising committee it gives me enormous pleasure to welcome you to Belfast for the 32nd British International Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in June 2010. Belfast is one of the UK’s most vibrant, interesting and expanding cities whilst also being a gateway to the countryside of Ireland. The city itself is compact enough to get around on foot but large enough to house numerous world famous attractions, shopping centres, museums including the Cathedral Quarter and the open air gallery of Murals from both sides of the religious divide. Birthplace of the Titanic, Belfast’s industrial heritage has shaped a city steeped in culture and offers many opportunities to explore this including the Ulster Museum, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum and the City Hall where we hope to hold the Congress Gala dinner. Belfast has undergone considerable expansion and regeneration in recent years attracting International attention. The city boasts easy access from all over the UK as well as from International airports therefore allowing participants the convenience of planning travel according to their individual needs. Within a couple of hours of Belfast visitors can travel to Giant’s Causeway or the Mountains of Mourne as well as many other picturesque villages and world class golf courses all of which will help you to discover the beauty of Northern Ireland. I hope to see you here Dr Paul P Fogarty Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist Chair of RCOG Northern Ireland Committee |
